Evaluation Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Throughout creating everything we have constantly got feedback on all three of our products, on every rough cut to make sure, it was right for the audience. the earliest feedback we got was from the questionaries' at the start of our research this is ultimately what shaped the narrative and look of our video, due to us learning what our audience want to see in the video: like performance from the artist, and connotations to the country as they felt that represented folk.
While completing the ancillary task the constant feedback from our audience allowed the product to evolve, combined with the research into other mad ads, and digipacks this allowed us to design to what the audience wanted.

After each rough cut we also got feedback so we could work out where to take it next this has helped to make our narrative clear, as well as get better shots fixing mise en scene and dodgy angles. this meant that our final cut lived up to our audience wants.

We got a person from our target audience to give us final feedback here's what they said:
"I really like the storyline and the flashbacks with the vintage - looking effects over the top, gave the song a really nice story and made me all emotional and made me think of the past and what the next years are going be like for myself. it really cleavely shows how everything changes but the thing that stays the constant is the memories you make".

This shows that we were successful in creating the product for our audience and met all the criteria we set to meet.

Evaluation Question 2 - How effective is the combination of the main product and ancillary tasks?

The Main Product and the ancillary task's are all linked together through the theme of polaroid pictures taken directly from the lyrics of our song and the narrative we created for it. they also reuse the same colours and the photos used are scenes in the actual video to create continuity between them.

The Magazine ad connects to the digipack as they both heavily feature the artist in both performance and narrative shots. as well as using polaroid pictures for framing. They work together as there is a clear continuation between the two so show they are apart of advertising for the same product.

The video connects nicely to them both as well with shared shots, due to us doing the photo shoot the same day as the main shoots so we could set it up in the ways the take went. the digipack uses lots of mid-shots and close-ups of our artist as we wanted to use his image to promote our album as the narrative of the video is focused around him like our audience wanted in our early research. The shots used of our artist is also balanced between the two shirts we used to shot with like in the video, with about the same amount of shots in each shirt.

The Video connects to the mag ad in similar ways, with the ad showing off more of the theme of the video with less images of the artist as well as showing the genre themes of folk with the use of the close up of the guitar.
The Magazine also uses a location shot from the end of the video directly showing the end of the journey of the artist at the end of the video without showing how the narrative wraps up.

Evaluation Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In the music video we have used a number of different convents mostly from Goodwin's 7 but also you could argue we look at equilibrium as well.

We demonstrate certain genre characteristics such as use of guitar and performance with guitar, and the use of special effects to set the mood and tone of the video. other examples of this being done is George Ezra - Blame it on me, and Tracy chapman's - fast car both songs from the genre. it also has a direct link to the lyrics either representing directly illustrating the words or other times more conetates the themes.

We have tried to keep to the artist iconography keeping to themes we saw across other videos of his we looked at but also have put our own take on it to make the actor we used look more at home and like his style.

Intertextual references look more at pre-existing music videos with little nods to things like, one direction story of my life with the use of pictures, and George Ezra listen to the man with a propionate use of a guitar in shot.

The equilibrium theory is represented in the way that our narrative starts with one and then hits a distruption  and recognition with the discovery of an old polaroid picture as the protagonist holds on to it as if its a forgotten memory that haunts him we then see the reseloiution as he receives an old letter from his mum tell him to hold on to the memories but also let go of the past as time moves on and what comes next and in the now is important this is when he sends the picture to his old friend as a way to reconnect and were left at a stage of eqrlierium again for the artist but unknown of if they do reconnect after the video ends.

Overall I think that we did a good job at expressing a suitable narrative to our song in a way that still fits into the genre well. And as folk music is very small on music videos set a new way of showing what the songs mean as folks origins intended too with a telling of a story.

Didgipak In Depth Analysis

I am doing a analysis of a Michael Jackson digipack as I was struggling to find one for the folk genre and his one is really good with lots going on in it.

The main bulk of the pack is a solid gold colour with this repeated on three panels as well as on the disks. the other colour is this shiny looking night sky effect that is a repeated theme throughout the digipack. The sky effect is used to create a silhouette of Jackson on one panel and to make up his costume on another. It is used to signify freedom amongst the stars to connect it to the title Xscape which means escape.

Close ups of Jacksons face have been used on the pack 3 times, First on the cover again on the inside and once more on a pull out poster. it has been used so many times as Jackson is a world famous artist who has created such an image for him self that his face now sells himself.

The Typography used is very out there again connecting back to the themes of escaping to the stars like the themes and title coneate throughout the rest of the pack. The same font is used on the back for the list of songs however this makes it very difficult to read as the font size is to small.

I have analysed a didgipack so I can see what works where stuff goes and how to set up a theme. It will help me when it comes to designing my own as it gives me an idea of a layout as well as shows how to connect every thing back to the theme.

Initial ideas for magazine ad

This is my first initial mock up for the magazine advert i have tried to keep it simple with the art based of one of my didgipack designs, showing the artist with the background relevant to the album name. I have tried to use text fonts that are appropriate to the song and the colours I used are to make sure it can be seen.

My second mock design is again biased on the musicians face, however this time its set up so the ad is a polaroid picture. The Text font I used on this one is clear bold and stands out a lot better than my first design however I do feel the ad as a whole lacks colour and in the real thing I don't think I will use the effect I have.

Design two is the design I will focus on the most when I put it on to the group blog. but I will also use ideas from my other design as well as merging it with others from my group. The reason we have practiced making magazine ads is because it will help to come up with a plan for pictures we will need to take as well as practise putting it together when it comes to creating our own.

Insparation from film and other media

For our music video we have looked at other music videos and media to take inspiration and components to use in our own video. We have looked at 4 pre-existing music videos to take components from. The reason we have done this is to make sure our music video is as professional as it could possibly be as all this videos are real and work. Where as if we tried to re-inventing music video it could end up looking poor.

The first video is Frank Turner - The Next Storm. From this video we are taking inspiration from the camera angles where we are going use a lot of the same angles and close ups on instruments and performance clips. as well as taking inspiration for the second narrative in a darker room completely juxtaposing the high key lighting in the performance. Something which we have planed to do in our own when looking at the polaroid pictures in the room and the flash backs (reliving the memories).

The second video is Some Nights - Fun - Peter Hollens. he is a you tuber that creates music video covarages his self. the element were looking to take from him is two coustumes that contradict each other (black shirt, white tie/ white shirt, black tie). Something that is very simple but looks very pleasing to watch and breaks up the scenes really nicely.

The third music video we have looked at to take inspiration from is Frank Turner - The Way I Tend To Be. we looked at this one as it is a Frank Turner video and this means we can copy his visual style and represent it in our own video. From this video we are looking to use the type of low key lighting as well as the location shots, as we want to carry his iconography across to our own video as well as have planed a similar location for some of our narrative.

The last music video we have looked at and took inspiration from is One Direction - Story of My Life. From this video  we have only looked at one thing that we have decided to use in our own. This is the use of pictures coming alive to show memory's and tell the narrative. Which as our song is about polaroid pictures and the memories you can catch with them we felt would be appropriate.

Lip sync practise

We did a practise lip sync to Tracy chapman's song fast cars. We only did about a minute and a half of it but this was enough to get practise with different shots, shooting in different locations and editing it all together and syncing it up.

From this I have learnt that when it comes to the real thing that in each location used we will need to record the song 3 or 4 times and from different angles to find the best looing lip sync to make it easier when editing. As well as the time its roughly going to take to edit the video together. It has also giving me practice matching the audio to the lips, As well as look at locations and precautions to take when filming, as in one of the clips the wind was too strong so we couldn't here the song so when it came to matching the audio up it proved to be more difficult and take longer to when we could hear what words were being said.

Intail Ideas For Digipack Design

This is my Initial mock up for our Digipack for frank turners polaroid picture it has 6 panels that show the name of the featured song the artist, other songs on the album.  As well as the lyrics to our chosen song and space for the CD to sit in.

My second Didgipack design I expermented more with the filters and tried to have a pop art style for the outside pannels. this time the pack has two CD spaces and again features other song names on the back.

The first design out of the two, is the one I am going to take through to my group which I can then combind with theirs to create a final digipack that we end up using.
Designing mock Didgipacks has helped me when it comes to creating the real thing because I now know what kind of pictures I need to take in order to create it. It has also given me practise on Photoshop in manipulating and creating the design as well as given me a feel for the layout and a template I can use for the real thing.

Magazine Advert Analysis

Magazine Advert

I'm analysing a magazine advert to see how the layout works what is stereotypically shown on them. How the typography is used and the use of pictures that I can learn from in order to make mine the best it can be when it comes too it.

Close Up On Band Name
Typography
The text used is basic and bold this is so it can be easily read so that the name of the band is promoted to the target audience who would be reading the magazine to build them a star profile that will help them to sell there work as well as this album.
The rest of the text is slightly small but again in the same font type in order to make it clear as people wont waist time trying to read something that is fancy and pretty but not necessarily clear when read.
Close Up On Release Date

Aesthetics
The majority of the ad is a giant picture that is the same as the album cover this is to already embed it in the audience mind so that the recognise it when they see it in shops or the cover on iTunes to encourage them to buy it. The picture is of 2 men on a raft out on a lake or at sea with the colours turned up to make it echo the title of the album "The Perfect World" with a landscape that looks ideal and "perfect".
Album cover

Close Up On Picture

Audience
The audience for this album is Teen's and young adults. the artist them self are in their late 20's so direct there music at a younger audience as they are up to date with the current trends amongst young people and can make their music to complement them. The use of advertising in a magazine also connotes this as stereotypically it is younger people that would read a music magazine.

Folk Music Video Analysis 2 Look at Chosen Artist

Frank Turner - The Next Storm
I am doing a second analysis for a folk video to reinforce my knowledge and make sure I know all of the generic conventions and representations shown in a folk genre music video. I have chosen to do a Frank Turner one as he is our chosen artist and it also gives me a first chance to look at his iconography; to make sure when we make our video for one of his songs it fits in and takes themes from his others.

Genre
The genre of the song is folk/rock and both the sound of the song and video borrows from both. Doing a lot of its performance in a rock way but the narrative shots telling a story like the folk genre does still borrowing a bit from rock with its content though.

The music video keeps to Frank turner's iconography throughout with a dark setting the use of story telling , However the costume side of things are different while he usually wears very casual clothes that fit to the folk genre; the two things you see him in are very dressed up and dressed down to become a boxer.

Narrative
The Narrative of the song switches between a performance in a boxing ring with high key lighting and Frank in a boxing match in low key lighting. Todorov equrliuruim theory is very loosely in the video with it starting with Frank the Protagonist in the video training then as the match starts he appears to be outmatched by his rival and looks like his going lose (disruption and recognition), but as the song picks up he finds the strength to overcome his rival (resolution) and win the match reaching equrliuruim again as they shake hands to end.

Oh Brother
The video represents a few of Goodwin's theory's with the video showing stereotypical band playing in the back and Frank dancing around "performing" the song for his fans getting really into it.
The video also represents Franks iconography with represented themes that are seen in videos like "Oh Brother" and "Losing Days"

The characters represented in the video are a hero or the protagonist and a rival the antagonist with it only shown frank as the hero because the lyrics and performance shots conotate to him trying to overcome an obstacle and be ready for "the next storm" to come his way.

Performance
The music video has used two locations, or one location with different time and lighting. both locations are a boxing ring one in low key lighting at the time of the fight set up to look dark and gritty and give set a serious more action movie mood.
The second is the ring again but this time with high key lighting at the time of the performance this has fans dancing and watching as Frank and his back up band play the song to them. They have used the two variations of the location to create juxtaposition between the performance that just shows the song being enjoyed and the match that shows it has a not so obvious meaning to it conetateing but not obviously to show its about overcoming and being prepared to tackle everything live throws at you.

Boxing match

Camera
There are a combination of different camera shots used in the video. It contains a lot of close ups usually on the artist face to either promote his face or to show how his feeling in the narrative to add to the message the artist wants to express in this video. long shots and mid shots are used to establish the location and set up the scene. with mid-shots also used to tell a lot of the narrative allowing us tyo see what's happing in the boxing match.

The edit has quite a slowed pace with quite a bit of time on each shot before cutting. it speeds up towards the end of the song.  The edit is slow because the majority of the song is focusing on performance mostly so its not important to move on quick as it isn't trying to tell to much of a story, with the narrative shots included in the video to make it a little bit more interesting to watch.

Audience

The audience for this video is young adults late teens. this is because the music is very folk based and the video is mostly performance so would attract this age as they go to lots of concerts.

initial Ideas On Own Music Video

We have chosen the song polaroid picture by frank turner to create our music video for. The first thing we did was print out the lyrics and come up with a rough plan for a narrative briefly designing a scene fro each verse of the song.  The next step from this would be to create a first draft of a story board to get a rough idea of what it will look like. I have also created a mood board containing ideas for our narrative as well as things that tie in to the genre and song so we know what our music video in theory should look like.

annotation of lyrics with initial ideas

The mood board is created up of images that connect to the initial ideas we had for the plot to our narrative. it mostly contains stereotypical folk music devices however there are also screenshots from various music videos from other genres we have considered to taking inspiration from.

Chosen artist reaserch

Born in Bahrain in 1981, Turner was educated at Eton College in England. His first foray into the world of punk and rock was in the band Kneejerk that came to an end in 2000, and he soon found himself joining up with Million Dead. Over the course of that band's four-year lifespan, Million Dead released two critically lauded albums, but the band decided enough was enough and called it a day in 2005. Turner decided to explore a different world after Million Dead, focusing on his love of folk and country, with acoustic guitar being the guiding force. Getting a deal with Xtra Mile Recordings, he was able to release his first EP.

Turner was educated on a scholarship at Eton College, where he studied alongside Prince William, and later went on to attend the London School of Economics where he read History. His father, Roger Turner, is the son of Sir Mark Turner, formerly chairman of high street retailer BHS, and had himself also attended Eton before becoming a City investment banker, while his mother, Jane, the daughter of a bishop, is a primary school head teacher. While it was previously claimed that Turner lived in Winchester in his early life, he later revealed he was actually raised in Meonstoke.

Beginning

The first record he owned was the Killers album from Iron Maiden. Metal was the first musical direction he adored and he still does. Turner's musical career began at school, with the short-lived alternative band Kneejerk. The band released three records and played several shows around the UK. The last record, their only full-length, was entitled The Half Life of Kissing and was released by Yorkshire DIY hardcore label Sakari Empire after the band had actually broken up.
In 2001, Turner joined London post-hardcore band Million Dead at the invitation of former Kneejerk drummer Ben Dawson. In 2005, after four years and two albums, the band announced that they were parting ways, as "irreconcilable differences within the band mean that it would be impossible to continue." Around that time Turner got a tape with Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska on it - later he claimed that "that was a really big moment for me hearing that record in terms of a turn around in my music career, from hardcore punk bands to what I’m doing now."

Sleep Is for the Week and Love Ire & Song (2005–2008)

Turner's first solo shows took place prior to the break-up of Million Dead, with a set at the Small town America all-dayer at 93 Feet East in London. After the band's split, Turner felt that "it seemed like the logical thing to do to try my hand at playing these songs more publicly and more concertedly than before". Turner states that "when Million Dead finished, I wanted to stay on tour, but I didn’t want the hassle of putting a band together."
After a split EP with rock band Reuben, Turner's first solo EP, Campfire Punkrock, was released in May 2006 on Xtra Mile Recordings, with him being recorded and backed by Oxford band Dive Dive who he had met while out on tour with Reuben.Band members Tarrant Anderson, Ben Lloyd and Nigel Powell would become his backing band from this point on, with most of his subsequent UK headline tours being full band shows. After touring in support of American singer-songwriter Jonah Matranga, the two released a split EP in August 2006. In September, he was the last act to appear on Steve Lamacq's "Lamacq Live" show on BBC Radio 1.Turner's debut full-length studio album, Sleep Is for the Week was released in January 2007, again recorded at Dive Dive's studio, produced by their guitarist Ben Lloyd and featuring drummer Nigel Powell.

Reserch into chosen audeince

From the questionnaires I did I have learnt that our target audience is very niche as there aren't that many folk fans when compared to a genre like pop. The age of our target audience is roughly between 15-30 years old and is a mix of male and female depending on the artist listen to.

Our audience expects to see the artist in the video and the majority think that its more important to see him performing the song than the narrative however do think a strong narrative should be include as a lot of folk music does tell a story with its lyrics.

Music Video Anyalasis Of Folk Genre

George Ezra - Cassy O'
Cassy O'
I am do An Analyse of George Ezra's Cassy O' as he is a folk-pop artist and by doing an analysis of a folk video in order to see the use of camera angles and the narrative set up that I can reflect into my own music video which is also folk genre.

Budapest

Did You Hear the Rain?

Genre
The genre of the song is Pop - Folk however it reflects a little punk as well in the music video. This themes mostly match up with the artist as he is a pop-folk singer, with a lot of his songs being very folk based with a pop twist to try and modernise it to make it more appealing to the target audience.
"O" Shapes
The song and video keep to Ezra's iconography having similar lighting set up and the use of him playing guitar throughout.
The video also uses one of Goodwin's - "the frequently reference to the notion of looking", With a scene of George preforming
on a bed while girls form a circle around him and take photos.
Notion Of Looking

Narrative
The concept when creating this narrative was to get as many "O" shaped things in to the video as possible - George Ezra. however it also has this second narrative based around girls and conates that the star of the video is playing a man who has found a girl that his in love with but doesn't realise and mess around with other girls, but when she finds out and leaves him he try's to change to win her back as the lyrics are suggesting though out, However we are never sure we see Cassy.

It has a brief use of Todorov's Equilibrium theory. with the start of the video very calm but some kind of disruption erupts and cause all the girls in the back to start fighting however it is unclear to why.  They're isn't really any realisation or resolution, however this is a stage in the video were they go back to Equilibrium again for a short period of time before returning back to disruption, to end the video with a montage of chaos and shots representing the "O" which is the main theme of the video.

Male Gaze

There aren't really any recognisable characters represented throughout the video, However gender is represented in stereotypical and some not so stereotypical ways. Males gaze theory is used a few times in the video to depict a woman as beautiful and to sexualise the woman. The ways women are not so stereotypically represented is when there fighting as a women is not thought of to act violent how ever they are shown pull hair and wrestling one another. This appears to lead to a number of shots with other girls looking surprised as they create the "O" shape with the mouth which deaconates as the purpose of the non-stereotypically behaviour.

Non-Stereotypical Representation
The music video has a number of locations some only being used for a few seconds of the video but the ones we visit more the once are: The kitchen, The swimming pool, A library, A bedroom and  a few others. Each location is set up with different lighting some high key some low key, with a mix of natural and non natural to give a little juxtaposition between shots to show its moved on.

Camera
The shots throughout the video are used to conates the themes of the shape "O" with various mid-shots and close ups used on objects and people to see the shape emerge from their face or the prop. The Shots are also used to show the artist as a performer as well as promote his face; this is because of the various long shots and mid shots you get off George so you can see him playing his guitar, as well as the many closes ups use to show the audience his face and help him creating a star image as George Ezra is not very known still and his face even less.

Camera tricks are used with the camera in the way that sometimes a shot starts out of focus and is pulled into it on close-ups of George or either George preforming or the girls in the background are not in focuses in order to make you watch a certain parts of the screens in long and mid shots.
there aren't really a lot of camera angles used in the video with a lot of the shots just head on this is due to the video not wanting to depict people in a certain way in order to outline the "O's" in the video to help self promote it.

The edit for the majority of the song is fast paced for the majority song picking up the pace more for the last chorus as it concludes and puts up a montage of different "O" shaped objects once again reflecting the main concept of the music video that George wanted.

Audience
The audience for this video are young adults, late teens, as the video has some content in it that is not appropriate for a younger audience, for example the used condom and some of the bed scenes at the end as well as a few other bits and pieces that are designed for an adult sense of humour.

Reaserch on to chosen genre

The officail deffenition of folk music is
music that originates in traditional popular culture or that is written in such a style. Folk music is typically of unknown authorship and is transmitted orally from generation to generation, however moredern days the second part is less true.

A lot of people get country and folk music confused this is because they do have some shared charchteristist such as comon instruments used this is why it is common to see/hear country folk crossovers however folk is written to tell a story that can be shared through song while country is typicly written to be fun, enertaining and to dance along to.

Characteristics to tradititainal folk:

  • It was transmitted through an oral tradition. Before the 20th century, ordinary farm workers and factory workers were usually illiterate. They acquired songs by memorizing them. Primarily, this was not mediated by books, recorded or transmitted media. Singers may extend their repertoire using broadsheets, song books or CDs, but these secondary enhancements are of the same character as the primary songs experienced in the flesh.
  • The music was often related to national culture. It was culturally particular; from a particular region or culture. In the context of an immigrant group, folk music acquires an extra dimension for social cohesion. It is particularly conspicuous in immigrant societies, where Greek Australians, Somali Americans, Punjabi Canadians and others strive to emphasize their differences from the mainstream. They learn songs and dances that originate in the countries their grandparents came from.
  • They commemorate historical and personal events. On certain days of the year, such as Easter, May Day and Christmas, particular songs celebrate the yearly cycle. Weddings, birthdays and funerals may also be noted with songs, dances and special costumes. Religious festivals often have a folk music component. Choral music at these events brings children and non-professional singers to participate in a public arena, giving an emotional bonding that is unrelated to the aesthetic qualities of the music.
  • The songs have been performed, by custom, over a long period of time, usually several generations.
As a side-effect, the following characteristics are sometimes present:
  • There is no copyright on the songs. Hundreds of folk songs from the 19th century have known authors but have continued in oral tradition to the point where they are considered traditional for purposes of music publishing. This has become much less frequent since the 1940s. Today, almost every folk song that is recorded is credited with an arranger.
  • Fusion of cultures: Because cultures interact and change over time, traditional songs evolving over time may incorporate and reflect influences from disparate cultures. The relevant factors may include instrumentation, tunings, voicings, phrasing, subject matter, and even production methods.

Morden folk
Since the 20th centery folk has become more a style of music than a song passed on and on, and now has artist and albums who sing and release folk music to buy and listen too. with famous folk singers such as Frank turner, Tracy chapman and Laura Marling - Short Movie has been voted top folk album of 2015 with Rhiannon Giddens number 2 and Jessica Pratt number 3.

Target audeince questionare and results

We did a questionnaire to work out roughly who our target audience was and what they want from a folk music video. We asked 10 people to fill them out and one of the main findings that is obvious is a lot of people seem to be confused between country and folk music however we have a few good questionnaires that give us an idea of what we need to include in our idea and what the audience want.

Out of the 10 people 5 said they listened to folk with a variation of artist from frank turner, to mountain goats, to Jake bugg , to bon iver, to la maison tellier and so on. one of the main things that came up in common with these five people was the inclusion of guitars, floaty dresses, bails of hay and the majority said they would like to see the artist in the video.
We also learnt that the majority of our target audience listens to folk through spotify and YouTube with only 2 people saying they would buy an album only if it was really good and worth the money.

pitch idea listening to the song

The Bluestone's - Autophilia
We were played this song in lesson without the video 3 times and then had to put a pitch together for the music video.

Our video started with a guy in a shop looking at woman in lots of different colour dresses with price tags around their neck with him deciding to "buy" the woman at the end, and then leave with her.
he then begins to take her on a series of dates in which he falls in love with her until we get to the verse:
"I like to burn some rubber,
I like to feel the steel,
I like to put my foot down,
I like to take the wheel,
She purrs just like a kitten
She'll go that final mile
But if she's rocking don't come knocking for a while"
Where you see them being really in love he proposes she says yes and then they kiss and go home together where they sleep together.
It then returns to the chorus which each time before we've seen the same similar montage of them flirting and messing around and "I'm on a double yellow line" been balancing on a different yellow object.
"Pay no attention to the sign
No stopping anytime
Come park that chassis next to mine
You know
I'm on a double yellow line."
However this time they are by the side of the road on the yellow lines and as the song comes to end the camera pans round to just the man then back round to see the woman has diapered and instead in her place there is a sports car in her place parked on the lines, conetating the whole time he has been falling in love with his car that he bought to the point he saw it as his "girl".

Lip Synching and its importance

When I come to create my own music video I will need to have my actor/singer lip sync the words to the song I chose as well as sync any instrumental moments on a guitar or drums, e.c.t. This is so when the audio is added it is in times with the moment of the lips or any instrument played in shot so that it matches up otherwise it looks really off and takes away from the rest of the  video.

A good example of this is Coldplay - The Scientist because not only does the audio match up with his lips because the entire video was filmed and then played in rewind he had to learn to sing the entire song backwards so that his lips would matchup with what he was singing in the video.

Instrumental syncing is also important as if the instruments in the video don't line up with the ones in the track so they don't look out of place in the song and match up with the music played so they visually make sense to be there.

Lyric anaylisis and there importance

In class I was given the lyrics to "leave right now" by Will Young  as I have never seen the music video before and had to come up with a narrative to the music video if I was directing it.
This task was helpful as it gave me a chance to practise coming up for a narrative when it comes to picking and directing a music video for my own song.

The video is the original music video which I watched after to compare to my own and although its completely different I feel I did it justice.

Song lryics why there important?

song lyrics can have one or more of these four puposes:
- To tell a story and create a narrative
- To engage the audince and to get people to relate to them
- To set up the scene
- To convey a message thrpugh the song

Some lyrics have a big effect on the music video and its narrative others can completly contridict them.
An example of a song thats narritive completly follows the words in the song is Friday by Rebecca Black where everything she sings about can be seen around her.

The second example is of pink's faimly portrait where the video echos the words but on a lot less obviouse level with much more sutle nods to the lyrics in the video.

Analysis of a Magazine advert

The magazine article is very simple and uses the same picture as the one on the front of the artist digipak.

The text is used for the artist name the album name and important information regarding the date and the availability. The fonts used are bold and clear with an artistic one used for "David Glimour" - the name of the artist to conetate he is the artist and a clear spaced out one for the name of the album with the o and c of lock conected together to represent a key to straight up represent the theme of the album.

The colors used are quite dark and dull and the use of the raven at the front of the birds leaving the cage adds to a very sinister vibe that conatates that the music in the album is quite dark and mysterious.
